SERGIO OLIVARES, Ph. D.
Dr. Olivares is an 11-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Honorable Discharged as an Infantry Sergeant (E-5). He is a former Investigator, Compliance Review Program, Texas Highway Patrol, Texas Department of Public Safety. He has been licensed in the State of Texas by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Regulatory Services Division, as a Manager/Owner, Combined Level 3 Instructor, Continuing Education Instructor, Non-Commissioned Security Officer, Commissioned Security Officer, and Personal Protection Officer. He also holds Classroom Instructor and Firearms Instructor Certificates issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
Dr. Olivares completed a Ph.D. degree at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 2022. He has earned a Master of Public Administration, Criminal Justice Track (2007) and a Bachelor of Arts Degree (1994) from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. He also earned an Associate in Arts Degree (1992) from Del Mar College.
Dr. Olivares has taught criminal justice courses as an Adjunct Faculty at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (2009-2018). And, he has worked in Iraq as a Security Specialist on a Department of Defense contract in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Dr. Olivares has provided training on active shooter awareness, terrorism awareness and situational awareness to Places of Worship. He was also instrumental in being the first to select, train, and deploy a Volunteer Security Team (VST) to a Place of Worship in Corpus Christi, Texas that met the requirements of Texas Senate Bill 2065; and is also the Security Coordinator of Record for that Place of Worship.
